A cyclist died on the Stanley Park causeway after being hit by a bus Saturday night, Vancouver police say.

A woman was riding on the sidewalk alongside the path leading to the Lions Gate Bridge at around 7 p.m. when she fell off and was hit by a West Vancouver Transit bus, Vancouver police spokesman Brian Montague said in a news release.

UPDATE: Vancouver police believe the cyclist had a run-in with pedestrians, causing her to fall off the sidewalk and into the path of the oncoming bus, CTV News reported Sunday.

Police will review video and speak to witnesses as part of their investigation to determine why the cyclist fell off the sidewalk.

The Lions Gate was closed after the accident but reopened just after 11 p.m., DriveBC tweeted.
