New Brunswick launches registry that aims to match patients with family doctors

FREDERICTON - New Brunswick has launched a registry intended to match patients with family physicians.

Health Minister Hugh Flemming says the registry will be provincially managed and offer services in both official languages.

Flemming says the registry replaces the province's no-physician lists and people on those lists have already been added to the registry.

The New Brunswick Medical Society has said there are more than 50,000 people without a family physician in the province.

Flemming says the government is also looking for ways of providing patients with acute medical conditions with access to a physician while they wait for a family doctor.
