Saskatchewan government could step in to force resolution of land dispute

REGINA - The province could be stepping into a land dispute between the Rural Municipality of Sherwood and the City of Regina.

Government Relations Minister Jim Reiter says new legislation means the government could order the two sides back to the bargaining table.

Both municipalities are laying claim to land just outside Regina's current boundaries.

Each feels they need that space to ensure they can grow in the decades ahead.

The city and the RM are in talks to form a new regional planning body but they have not yet agreed on terms.

Reiter says he hopes the two sides get together and work out their issues, noting that the province will only be stepping in as a last resort.
