Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery but it could also cause you serious injury, so says one expert who says that women who carry large bags on their elbows like Victoria Beckham could seriously damage their health.

Physiotherapist Sammy Margos told the Sunday Express:

"Women may think that they are following a catwalk trend but they are storing up trouble. We have seen a huge increase in shoulder and neck problems and killer heels can add to the pressure on posture. We have seen handbags which weighed a huge one-and-a-half stone. It can cause repetitive strain injury and pain in the shoulder and neck."

And all that just to look like Posh Spice!

This isn't the first time we've heard about the dangers of carrying large bags. Experts say that carrying heavy bags can cause a lot of neck and back problems, muscle spasms, disfiguration of the spine, difficulty sleeping and even paralysis.

In fact, lugging around a heavy bag all day can add years on your body. We don't think Posh would approve of that.

So how do you prevent purse injuries? For starters, switch your bags often, that way your body isn't used to one large bag every day, and bend your knees when picking up your purse. It's also a good idea not to carry so much stuff in your purse, so toss all the stuff you don't really need like that extra lipstick container or that large book. Ideally, it should weigh no more than 10 per cent of your body weight.

Careful of your large purses, Victoria!
