It used to be that women only thought to put headbands in their hair, but today, it's a whole new ballgame.

Celebrities such as Jennifer Lawrence and Katy Perry have been taking note of the biggest summer 2013 hair trends and we've been keeping an eye out for who wore it best.

The biggest summer hair trends we’ve seen so far include braids worn in various ways, double buns from the '90s, embellishments, top-knots and chic hair wraps.

Braids - Blake Lively

Celebrities Wearing Summer 2013 Hair Trends

Braids

Braids are probably the biggest summer hair trend at the moment. How could you not wear your hair in a cool, off-your-back fishtail braid when Mr. Golden Sun is melting your faux leather pants off?

Always a versatile look, a braid can be dressed up to look ultra sleek and sophisticated or toned down by pulling at the sides of a finished braid to create a low maintenance bohemian aesthetic. The likes of Blake Lively, Stacy Keibler and Jennifer Lawrence have put the braid to the test on the red carpet wearing it high, low, messy, neat and even as a faux hairband!

Embellishments

Thank you “Gossip Girl” for giving hair decor a little love. The show saw Blair Waldorf (played by Leighton Meester) socialize around New York City in to-die-for headbands. Sometimes they were elaborate with bows, crystals or flowers and other times they were simple but no less stylish.

The ornate headband trend seemed to bring about the rise of hair embellishments and it didn’t hurt that Baz Luhrmann’s “The Great Gatsby” adaptation inspired us all to wear bigger statement pieces in our hair.

Celebs who love to give their tresses a little something extra include former "The O.C." actress Mischa Barton, who is regularly seen rocking some kind of hair embellishment and singers Taylor Swift and Katy Perry also love to rock headbands in their gorgeous tresses.

Double Buns

It all started with the return of the overall, then we started seeing platform sneakers followed by the crop top.

Yes, the '90s are back and for those of us who took style cues from the crews on "Dawson’s Creek" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", we can’t help but feel a little nostalgic seeing it all come flooding back.

Hair trends from the '90s include the classic blowout, the bob, the power ponytail and oh yes, our favorite, the raver double bun which No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani made famous.

Recently, we've seen singer Rita Ora and designer Whitney Port wear their buns in twos and “High School Musical” star Vanessa Hudgens also graced the cover of Paper magazine wearing her hair in a very '90s looking double bun.

Let's just hope crimps don’t weasel their way back into our lives!

The Top-Knot

In ten years, the top-knot may become the double bun comeback kid but in the meantime, it’s new, fresh and everyone is piling their hair way up top of their heads to achieve this 'do.

Much like the braid, the top-knot is super versatile. Celebs have been working this look on the red carpet and some have just been schlepping around town with a no-fuss messy version of this summer trend.

The great advantage for styling your hair in a top-knot? It helps keep you cool during the hot, summer months. Singer Christina Milian obviously knew this bit of hair wisdom when she swept her gorgeous brunette locks in a tight top-knot at the 5th Annual On the Go Beauty event in May.

Turbans And Headwraps

Turbans have been around for hundreds of years but the modern way to wrap hair became trendy as soon as Carrie Bradshaw wore her ultra-cool colourful headwrap in "Sex and the City 2."

So, it’s no surprise that the coveted hair accessory has become a huge summer trend. Beyonce’s sis Solange loves this trend and is often seen wearing playful turbans and who could forget model Karolina Kurkova's stunning gold turban she wore at the Met Gala?

And if a celebrity stylist is seen working the trend, you know it's one to check out. Hollywood stylist Rachel Zoe, who dresses the likes of Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Garner and Jennifer Lawrence, is often seen wearing a leather turban that's pushed far back on her head.

What are your favourite summer hair looks?
