Police investigate possible arson in Snowdon area

The Montreal police arson squad is investigating a suspicious fire at the Shalom kosher restaurant in Côte-des-Neiges early this morning.

Someone threw a Molotov cocktail inside the restaurant located near the intersection of Queen Mary Road and Décarie Boulevard in the Snowdon neighbourhood.

“When the Montreal fire service got on the scene, the sprinkler had put out the fire,” Const. Dany Richer of the Montreal police.

“The main damage is caused by the water.”

The residents in adjacent apartments were forced from their homes, but were able to go back inside an hour later.

Police have no suspects and no motive so far.

"The owner wasn't the victim of any harrassment or any threats over the last week. This place is not known to police," Richer said.
