Orcas In Vancouver Harbour Stun The Internet (TWEETS)

Vancouverites cast their eyes to Burrard Inlet Friday as a pod of orcas swam past boats and into Coal Harbour.

Twitter user Lara Rose Tansey tweeted photos of the orcas that showed the whales going under the Lions Gate Bridge and heading toward the Vancouver Convention Centre.

CTV News soon picked up on the whales' arrival with a live feed from the network chopper.

Twitter user @brenasaur counted as many as six orcas swimming into Vancouver waters as the social media site lit up with excitement about their arrival.

This isn't the first time that marine mammals have come so close to the city. In May 2010 a gray whale swam into False Creek, coming right up to Science World, CTV News reported at the time.

Then in April 2011, there were porpoise sightings in Howe Sound as the animals were spotted close to Bowen Island and West Vancouver, the Bowen Island Undercurrent reported.
