EDMONTON - Edmonton police say a violent home invasion that left two young men and their dog with stab injuries was not random.

Police say a group of masked suspects broke into a home early Friday morning, armed with a long-barrelled gun and knives.

The mother of the two young men was assaulted but not seriously injured.

One of the young males suffered multiple deep stab wounds and underwent emergency surgery.

The attackers spared a third younger male but they stabbed the family dog, which is recovering at a vet clinic.

Officers tried to track down the suspects using Air 1, the canine unit and patrol officers but they could not find them.
