On the day Montreal mayor Michael Applebaum was arrested, lawyer Mélanie Joly confirmed that she will run for city hall's top position in the November elections.
"I cannot accept seeing the city that I love dragged into contempt, stagnation and corruption. I think Montrealers no longer recognize their city and its administration. I think Montrealers are stronger than partisan politics," said Joly.
The 34-year-old Joly resigned from the public relations firm Cohn & Wolfe few weeks ago to begin her mayoral campaign.
Joly says she believes Applebaum should resign as mayor.
