TORONTO - Some of the most active companies traded Thursday on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the TSX Venture Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (12,005.78 up 53.88 points):

Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX:SU). Oilsands. Unchanged at $30.84 on 17.26 million shares.

Barrick Gold Corp. (TSX:ABX). Miner. Up seven cents, or 0.45 per cent, at $15.57 on 11.82 million shares.

Rainy River Resources (TSX:RR). Metal explorer. Unchanged at $3.45 on 7.42 million shares.

B2Gold Corp. (TSX:BTO). Miner. Down six cents, or 2.99 per cent, at $1.95 on 6.24 million shares.

Telus Corp. (TSX:T). Telecommunications. Unchanged at $29.82 on 6.12 million shares.

Toronto Venture Exchange (860.24 down 0.59 point):

Cream Minerals Ltd. (TSXV:CMA). Metal explorer. Down half a cent, or 50 per cent, at half a cent on 6.27 million shares.

IBC Advanced Alloys Corp. (TSXV:IB). Metal distributor. Down 2.5 cents, or 31.25 per cent, at 5.5 cents on 4.65 million shares.

Aimia Inc. (TSX:AIM). Loyalty rewards. Up $1.48, or 10.63 per cent, at $15.40 on 3.01 million shares. The company that runs the Aeroplan customer loyalty program says it is prepared to drop CIBC (TSX:CM) as its bank credit card partner at the end of the year unless CIBC can match contractual terms offered by TD Bank (TSX:TD).

BCE Inc. (TSX:BCE). Media and telecommunications. Up 39 cents, or 0.94 per cent, at $41.96 on 2.81 million shares. After the markets closed, the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission gave the thumbs up to Bell's second bid to buy Astral Media (TSX:ACM.A) and its coveted suite of TV speciality channels and radio stations in a deal pegged at $3.4 billion. Astral's stock was up 13 cents, or 0.27 per cent, at $48.24 on 289,432 shares.

Empire Company Ltd. (TSX:EMP.A). Grocer. Down 34 cents, or 0.43 per cent, at $79.28 on 223,349 shares. Empire has agreed to sell 26 theatres to Cineplex (TSX:CGX) and 20 to Landmark Cinemas in deals with a combined value of $255 million. Proceeds will be used to pay down debt. The company also announced higher fourth-quarter profits and revenue. Cineplex stock was up $1.44, or 4.11 per cent, at $36.47 on 182,190 shares.

Rona (TSX:RON). Home improvement retailer. Up 76 cents, or 7.83 per cent, at $10.47 on 316,916 shares. The struggling retailer announced it is closing 11 money-losing stores, cutting about 125 administrative jobs and trimming its marketing budget.
