Royal watchers wondering whether the Duchess of Cambridge, a.k.a. Kate Middleton, is expecting a baby boy or girl might be surprised to learn that even she and Prince William don’t know.

"They don't know the sex of the baby and have decided not to find out,” an unnamed royal official told the Associated Press.

So it seems all those rumours around the colour of Kate’s baby purchases and slips of the tongue were just wishful thinking. (Although it won’t stop us from analyzing Kate’s maternity looks on the off-chance she’s subconsciously wearing pink for a reason.)

While the baby’s sex remains a royal mystery, officials did spill some other details.

The Duchess will give birth in the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in London, the same hospital where Will and younger brother Harry were born.

The birth announcement will "preserve the theatricality of the tradition," a source said. A formal document announcing the birth will be carried from the hospital to Buckingham Palace by a royal aide and displayed on an easel, according to the Mirror. A digital announcement will also be made.

A report from the Daily Mail also revealed the Duchess isn’t “too posh to push,” as a previous report suggested. Kate, who is said to be due in mid-July, plans give birth naturally, if possible.

But don’t count on knowing a name anytime soon. Royal officials said it’s unclear how long picking a name would take, so it looks like royal fans will have to keep guessing on that front.
