Pamela Mattock Porter Detained Until At Least Tuesday

Pamela Mattock Porter, the wife of the former head of the McGill University Health Centre, Arthur Porter, will find out next Tuesday if she is to be granted bail.

Mattock Porter appeared in a Montreal courtroom on Thursday.

She is accused of conspiracy and laundering the proceeds of crime.

Mattock Porter was called to testify, as were two police officers. The evidence presented at Thursday's hearing is subject to a publication ban.

Mattock Porter was transferred to Montreal from a jail in Panama last week, following her arrest along with her husband in Panama on May 27. The Crown prosecutor in the case is opposing bail, saying Mattock Porter is a flight risk.

Arthur Porter is still held in Panama, where he is fighting his extradition. He argues his arrest was illegal because of his claim he enjoys diplomatic immunity.

Authorities in Canada issued an international warrant for the arrests of Porter and his wife in February.

The former MUHC head is facing charges of fraud and laundering the proceeds of crime, among others, for his alleged role in a scandal involving the $1.3-billion MUHC superhospital construction project, which he helped to spearhead.
