Drug ring in Sorel-Tracy target of police raids

Fifteen people were arrested in provincial police raids this morning as part of an investigation aimed at dismantling a well-established drug trafficking ring in Sorel-Tracy.

The Sureté du Québec said the investigation, which started in 2012, targeted dealers and distributors in the region.

The dawn raids involved more than 30 officers, including some from the RCMP.

Sgt. Daniel Thibaudeau said police seized an undisclosed amount of cocaine, methamphetamine and cannabis.

"We believe this gang has been operating for several years now," he said.

Police executed more than 20 search warrants this morning, most targeting residences.

Thibaudeau said more arrests could be made later today.
