Calgary Road And Bridge Closures

As flood waters continue to rise in Calgary, the city has closed a number of streets and bridges to vehicles and pedestrians.

The Elbow River is expected to crest early this morning downstream of the Glenmore dam, and the city predicts Bow River water levels will remain steady throughout the day. Water levels in both rivers are expected to remain high for the next several days.

The city has closed the downtown core to transit and C-Train and numerous building ae closed. Police are asking Calgarians to stay off the roads and refrain from travelling in flood-prone areas.

The following roads and bridges have been closed:

Road closures

  • 17 Avenue – Deerfoot: NB to WB ramp
  • Glenmore Trail – Deerfoot: NB to EB ramp
  • SB Macleod Trail (Patterson)
  • NB Macleod Trail (Victoria)
  • 9 Avenue and 7 Street SE, just north of MacDonald Avenue SE
  • NB Crowchild Trail at Bow Trail is closed and southbound Crowchild Trail, north of Kensington also closed due to the intersection of Kensington and Crowchild being flooded
  • SB Macleod Trail at 10 Avenue
  • SB Macleod Trail at 9 Avenue
  • Heritage Drive from Heritage Meadows Road to Glenmore Trail SE
  • WB Glenmore Trail ramp to N&S Deerfoot Trail
  • 4 Street north of 26 Avenue/Elbow Drive
  • 5 St at 26 Avenue
  • 26 Avenue between 4 & 5 Streets SW
  • Elbow Drive from 26 Avenue/4 Street to 32 Avenue
  • EB Memorial Drive ramp to St. Georges Drive
  • No access to Memorial Drive from the Zoo Island. St. Patrick’s/St. George’s/Zoo Island access to south shore only.
  • EB Memorial Drive NW from 10 St to Edmonton Trail (west intersection)
  • WB Memorial Drive NE from Edmonton Trail (west intersection) to 10 Street
  • Crowchild Trail ramps to Memorial Drive EB

Bridges over the Elbow River that have been closed:

  • 4 Street SW
  • 25 Avenue SW
  • SB Macleod Trail (Patterson)
  • NB Macleod Trail (Victoria)
  • Macdonald Avenue
  • 9 Avenue SE/Inglewood

Bridges over the Bow River that have been closed:

  • Baines Bridge at the zoo
  • St. Georges Bridge
  • 17 Avenue SE
  • 16 Avenue, west of Home Road
  • Shouldice bridge (Bowness Road)
  • 85 Street NW bridge
  • Centre Street underdeck
  • Langevin (Edmonton Trail)
  • Crowchild Trail over Bow Trail
  • 4 Avenue flyover
  • CN bridge/Calf Robe
