Pascale Honore had a tragic car accident that left her in a wheelchair.
"I was talking with my friend and suddenly realised I was on the wrong side of the road and over-corrected," the 50-year-old mother from Elliston, Australia told The Advertiser.
The crash gave Honore's friend, who had her seat belt on, a "big bruise."
As for Honore, "I was yelling out, `I can't move my legs. I can't get up.'"
Now, with the help of a family friend and some duct tape, she's a surfer.
Honore says both her sons surf and that she's always gone to watch them, the Barossa and Light Herald reports.
“I was always talking about [how] good it would be to go surfing and one day, a friend of my son said ‘you know what, I think we could tape you onto my back and take you out there,'" she said.
The family friend, 23-year-old Tyron Swan, says in a Vimeo clip titled 'Duct Tape Surfing' that Honore "just hassled me every time I wanted to go for a surf."
"She would put herself through anything to be in the ocean."
Now, with a fundraising campaign, Honore and Swan are planning a "Leggless Summer" tour to find the best waves in western Australia and continue inspiring people with their story.
"It's just been absolutely amazing," Pascale told the Herald Sun.
"We never thought that it would go this big."
