Wanting Qu Is Vancouver's New Chinese Tourism Ambassador (VIDEO)

WATCH: Vancouver Recruits Pop Star To Lure Chinese Tourists

Vancouver is going all out to lure tourists from China, launching a video series and social media campaign with Vancouver-based Chinese pop sensation Wanting Qu.

The first video, posted today, features Qu indulging in glamorous B.C. activities including whale watching, picnicking on Blackcomb glacier, kayaking in Deep Cove and crossing the Capilano suspension bridge. Her 2012 single, "Life Is Like A Song" provides the video's soundtrack.

Along with the video, Tourism Vancouver also launched a Chinese language website, where fans of Qu can enter to win a trip to Vancouver to meet their idol, Business In Vancouver reports. Fans can also enter the contest via the popular Chinese social media platform Weibo.

Although Vancouver was visited by 150,000 Chinese tourists last year, Tourism Vancouver vice-president of leisure travel Stephen Pearce said there is no room for complacency in wooing mainland visitors, reports 24 Hours. He noted that other destinations are beating out Vancouver with more aggressive marketing campaigns.

Qu was named as Vancouver's first-ever tourism ambassador in Mainland China in February.

Born in China, Qu has lived in Vancouver since her teens. Her debut album "Everything In The World" went triple-platinum in China and Hong Kong, and she swept the boards at various 2012 Chinese Music Awards, according to her record label, Nettwerk.
