If there is any year that Calgarians can come together to celebrate Canada Day, it's 2013. In the aftermath of the flood in southern Alberta, Albertans and Canadians have come forward to help and offer their support to everyone involved.
As thousands of volunteers come together to help, Canada Day offers the opportunity to celebrate these Canadian values. It also offers a much-needed break for those working long hours to piece the city back together.
A full-day event is planned in downtown Calgary, starting with live music at Shaw Millennium Park, food vendors, artists and performers on Stephen Avenue all day, and ending with fireworks. The first 3,000 people will also be provided with red or white T-shirts to create a living Canadian flag.
Approximately 100,000 Calgarians attend the event each year, making it the most highly attended one-day event in Calgary, according to the city.

A Powwow is also planned at Olympic Plaza, as "the sounds of the drum will resonate through the air of downtown Calgary," says the city's website.
A "Dominion Day" is planned at Heritage Park Historical Village and Fort Calgary is hosting a free pancake breakfast.
