Death in East Vancouver house fire ruled a homicide

Vancouver police say the case of a man found dead after a house fire in East Vancouver earlier this month is being investigated as a homicide.

The fire broke out at a home in the 900 block of East 63rd Avenue at about 5 p.m. PT on June 15.

Edward Stobie Billy, 20, was found dead in the basement. The cause of death has not been released.

Police say the fire was deliberately set and Billy's death is now confirmed to be a homicide.

In a strange coincidence, the home belonged to an elderly woman who was killed earlier in the day when she fell under a bus.

Police haven’t made any arrests in connection with Billy’s death.
