Metro Vancouverites better get set to feel the heat, as temperatures are expected to climb as high as 30 degrees Celsius in parts of the region for Canada Day Long Weekend.
Friday and Saturday are expected to see mixes of sun and cloud, with temperatures climbing as high as 23 degrees Celsius. But scorchers on Sunday and Monday (Canada Day) could reach 27 degrees on the coast and 32 degrees inland before cooling off mid-week, The Vancouver Sun reports.
Meanwhile, the Okanagan Valley and the Kootenays are expected to see temperatures as high as 40 degrees Celsius over the long weekend, before they too ease later in the week, The Province reports.
Environment Canada could issue an extreme heat alert if temperatures remain high longer than predicted, and it is warning people to keep cool, stay hydrated and to get informed on heat-related illness by calling Healthlink BC at 811, according to Global News.
BC Ferries is advising commuters that Canada Day Weekend is one of the year's busiest, with the longest lineups expected between 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday. Canada Day could see long waits between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. as vacationers return home, The Vancouver Sun reports.
