Woman, young girl sexually assaulted in home invasion

Police are hunting a suspect in an apparently targeted sexual assault in which both a woman and a young girl in the same home were assaulted.

Investigators say the suspect, brandishing a knife, forced his way into the residence of a woman in her 20s on Thursday in the Coxwell Avenue and Gerrard Street area. He sexually assaulted her and then also assaulted a young girl staying at the same home, police say.

Before leaving the victims, he allegedly stole items belonging to the woman.

The suspect was identified as 46-year-old Elric Benjamin MacArthur, of Toronto. He is described as white, five-foot-eleven and weighing about 220 pounds. He also has a shaved head and a slight moustache, and was seen wearing a black T-shirt with a brown design on the front, blue jeans, a black baseball cap, eyeglasses and was carrying a camouflage-patterned backpack.

Police are considering him to be armed and dangerous and warn the public not to approach him, but report him if they see him.

He is charged with sexual assault with a weapon, sexual interference, forcible confinement, break and enter to commit an indictable offence and robbery.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-7474 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
