The father of three boys died Saturday after trying to save them in Wood Lake.

UPDATE: July 2 - The victim has been identified as George Matthew Klein, 42, of Whitehorse, Yukon by B.C. Coroners Service.

The three boys, aged nine to 11, were swimming in Wood Lake near Kokanee Beach Resort and were being called back to shore when they were swept farther out into the water, Lake Country RCMP said in a news release.

The mother cried out for help and the boys' father jumped in to save them alongside other family members.

The boys, their cousin and grandfather were all eventually rescued by people riding a paddle boat. The father disappeared under the water and was presumed drowned, the RCMP said.

A search and rescue crew later discovered the body of the 42-year-old man from Whitehorse about 16 feet underwater at some distance from the shore.

The father's identity has not been released.
