14 people on boat, but no life-jackets aboard, OPP say

The Ontario Provincial Police say they stopped an unregistered boat on Lake Simcoe this weekend that had 14 passengers on board, but the vessel was not carrying a single life-jacket.

The boat was stopped by the OPP and members of the Central Region Marine near Eight Mile Point on Lake Simcoe.

Among the 14 passengers on board were four children under the age of 10, police say.

Police say the owner admitted he didn’t have any life-jackets, nor any safety equipment on the boat.

The owner had recently purchased the boat in the United States, but had not registered it.

The boat was sent back to shore until the owner could meet required safety standards.
