A teenage boy died after being swept over a waterfall in Indian Arm Provincial Park, north of Burrard Inlet, Sunday afternoon.
UPDATE: July 5 - The victim has been identified as Marcos Borboa Lara, 16, an exchange student from Mexico, confirm B.C. Coroners Service.
Officials say the 16-year-old boy was swimming with friends at the top of the Granite Falls at around 5 p.m. PT when the water suddenly pulled him over. He fell approximately 15 metres down the waterfall.
Coquitlam RCMP Staff Sgt. Rob Lemon said witnesses pulled the boy from the water at the bottom of the falls and attempted CPR.
"Two nurses who happened to be camping in the area tried to resuscitate the youth, but the injuries were too severe and he was unable to be resuscitated," Lemon said.
A Coquitlam police patrol boat was also in the area at the time, but its members could not help. When an air ambulance arrived, its crews confirmed that the boy's injuries were too severe for him to survive, Lemon said.
