Four candidates so far in race to lead Newfoundland's Liberal party

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Four candidates are now in the running to lead Newfoundland and Labrador's Liberal party.

Longtime Liberal Danny Dumaresque is the latest hopeful to add his name to the mix.

Dumaresque is a former Liberal member of the legislature for Eagle River and also served as the party's president.

St. John's businesswoman Cathy Bennett announced her candidacy in a tweet Monday, saying it's time to take her passion and energy for the province "to a new place."

Bennett owns and operates several McDonald's restaurants in the St. John's area and previously served as president of the St. John's Board of Trade.

Also in the running are interim party Leader Dwight Ball and Jim Bennett, the Liberal member for St. Barbe.

Hopefuls for the party's top job have until Friday to declare their intentions.

The party's next leader will be chosen in November.
