Whitehorse man who drowned in B.C. identified

The B.C. Coroner's office has confirmed the name of a Whitehorse man who drowned over the weekend.

George Matthew Klein, 42, died Saturday while trying to save his two children and one other child.

The three boys, aged nine through 11, were swimming at the Kokanee Beach Resort near Kelowna. A number of adults jumped in the water to rescue the boys who got caught in an undertow.

Klein did not resurface.

His body was found later in the afternoon about 20 metres from shore.

RCMP Constable Kris Clark says drownings on Wood Lake have happened in the past.

"I think the last ones we've had there were basically in the winter when the lake was frozen over and people were walking on thin ice and falling through the ice surface," said Clark.

The three boys are all safe.
