Calgary Stampede 2013: Attendance Makes Stampede City Alberta's Third Largest Population (PHOTOS)

LOOK: Calgary Stampede Is Alberta's Third Largest City

Move over Red Deer. For the next week you'll no longer be Alberta's third largest city.

Every year during the 10-day Calgary Stampede, "Stampede City" becomes the third largest city in Alberta, complete with its own infrastructure and services that rival any you'd find in a year-round town.

According to Stampede officials, each day approximately 120,000 people spill onto the festival grounds, located near Calgary's downtown core, making the Stampede almost 30,000 residents bigger than Alberta's third largest city of Red Deer which has a population of 92,490.

The 193-acre fair grounds include nightclubs and restaurants, medical services, a police detachment, a recycling plant and more. The Stampede also generates its own electricity.

Click through the slideshow below to see how the Calgary Stampede transforms into a self-contained town each year.
