The destruction in Lac Megantic is perhaps most striking in photos taken from above.

Disaster struck the Quebec town early Saturday, when a train carrying crude oil derailed, causing fatal explosions and fires. So far, five deaths have been declared and about 40 people remain missing. Police expect the death toll to rise.

In pictures, scorched tanker cars and buildings’ charred remains can be seen from above, along with flames and plumes of smoke from before firefighters extinguished the blaze.
