Toronto Storm 2013: Flight Cancellations And Delays At Pearson And Billy Bishop Airports

Toronto Storm Prompts Flight Delays, Cancellations (LIVE UPDATES)

The Toronto Port Authority says there will be no departures from Billy Bishop Airport for the rest of the day. Flights from Porter and Air Canada are still arriving and while the ferry service will no longer take passengers to the airport, it will be shuttling travellers off to the mainland. Travellers are advised to contact their carriers for the latest updates regarding flight while those looking to pick up passengers at the airport can still do so by car or taxi.

Record rainfall in Southern Ontario has made for some wet and difficult travel conditions Monday evening.

Reports of flash flooding and heavy rainfall has halted ground transportation in the Greater Toronto Area. In Toronto, the Toronto Transit Commission has halted subway services due to signal and power issues throughout the city. All subway cars have been instructed to wait at the next station until further notice.

The heavy rainfall has also caused some delays and cancellations at Toronto's airports. Peason International is reporting 79 cancelled flights as of 7:00 p.m., though it's uncertain how many of those cancellations were related to the storm. The airport warned travellers to expect more delays and cancellations, in a tweet.

Inside Pearson, there are multiple reports that Terminal 3 is running on emergency power due to a hydro failure.

The airport is reporting 90 mm of rain — over a month's worth — since 5:00 p.m., according to a tweet from the weather Network's Chris Scott.

Travellers flying to or from Pearson International are advised to call their airlines ahead of time for any changes. Toronto's island airport, Billy Bishop, is also warning travellers to check in advance for any changes to their flights here.
