COQUITLAM, B.C. - Homicide investigators have now been called to the scene of a fatal house fire in the Vancouver suburb of Coquitlam, B.C.

Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) Sgt. Jennifer Pound says the team was called shortly after the bodies of a man and woman were found in the bedroom of a home on a quiet, tree-lined street.

UPDATE: The victims in a Coquitlam house fire on July 9, 2013 have been identified as Benyoucef Assen and Agnes Assen. Police believe the incident was a murder/suicide, IHIT said in a news release. Evidence supports the theory that Agnes was killed by her husband Benyoucef, before he set the house on fire, police said, with his death resulting from the house being set on fire.

Firefighters located the victims at around midnight as crews doused a blaze that had engulfed an upper, rear bedroom of the home.

Neighbours reported hearing a scream and some sort of blast moments before the flames broke out.

A cause of the fire remains under investigation.

RCMP and the coroner are not confirming the identities of the victims and there's no word, yet, on how the man and woman may have died. (CKNW)
