Shot cat, saved by fat, on road to recovery

A Brandon, Man., pet cat shot by an air rifle, but saved by its belly fat, is purring along to health.

People have also rallied to help owner Rikki Smith cover the extensive vet bills.

Le Neige, the one-year-old tabby shot June 28, is doing so well that her bandages will be removed Friday, Smith said.

Smith found the cat lying on the patio and rushed it to the veterinarian, who said Le Neige's store of fat significantly lessened the bullet's impact, keeping it from piercing any organs.
