Saskatchewan government minister says highway twinning will take time

REGINA - A group from Estevan, Sask., is putting pressure on the Saskatchewan government to twin Highways 6 and 39 from Regina to North Portal.

The group, called "Time to Twin," notes three people died just last week south of Regina.

Earlier this week, the province announced that twinning will begin this summer on Highway 39 east of Estevan to Bienfait.

Highways Minister Don says twinning to North Portal will happen, but in sections, not all at once.

McMorris says more education and law enforcement may also be needed.

He says everybody would be safer on the highway if people drove the speed limit and refrained from talking on their cellphones or texting.
