Boy Takes Family Porsche For Unauthorized Joyride, Crashes

A 14-year-old boy who took his family's Porsche without permission and crashed it into a hydro pole this morning won't be criminally charged.

Gatineau police said the boy, accompanied by his 13-year-old friend, drove the Porsche out of his family's driveway late Thursday morning.

The boy then lost control of the Porsche and crashed into a hydro pole on Saint Thomas Road north of Highway 50, not far from the family home, police said.

The boys fled the scene on foot, but were spotted by people nearby who called police. The boys were quickly found by officers a short time later.

People in the area were left without electricity due to the broken hydro pole, but police said no criminal charges will be laid.

Instead, the 14-year-old driver was issued violation notices for driving without a valid license, hit-and-run and reckless driving.
