Tannis Atkinson Faces Drug Charges After High-Speed Chase Reaches 254 Km/h

Driver Clocked At 254 Km/h.. Then Crashes

Police in Edmonton have arrested a motorist allegedly travelling at 254 kilometres per hour after the Edmonton Police Service helicopter Air1 located the crashed vehicle Friday morning.

The vehicle was involved in a single-vehicle collision shortly after it was clocked more than doubling the freeway's speed limit say police.

A female passenger, Tannis Atkinson, sustained minor injuries and has been charged with possession of drugs and possession of stolen property.

The 27-year-old male driver is in custody and charges are pending against him.

“There is no question that this driver endangered lives,” said Staff Sergeant Curtis Schriever.

“He showed a complete disregard for the safety of the people travelling on the same road as him. I cannot imagine what this individual was thinking travelling at such a dangerous rate of speed.”

RCMP Canine unit and patrol members tracked the driver through the river valley for several hours before the arrest.
