Cory Monteith Dead: ‘Glee' Star Remembered As Canucks Superfan

'Glee' Star Remembered As Canucks Superfan

In Vancouver, Canucks nation mourned the loss of a one of the franchise’s biggest fans.

Cory Monteith, star of Fox's hit series 'Glee,' was found dead in a Vancouver hotel room on July 13. He was 31.

Monteith, an unabashedly proud Canucks fan, flooded his Twitter feed with hockey-related tweets throughout the NHL season. He and girlfriend Lea Michele were often spotted watching games at arenas and during award shows, to support his beloved Canucks.

One of Monteith's first public appearances after his month-long stay in rehab earlier this year was at a Vancouver Canucks home game on May 2.

The Green Men, high-profile supporters for the Canucks known for dressing in green full-body spandex suits, offered their condolences to Monteith's friends and family through Twitter.

Other Canucks fans soon followed suit, praising Monteith's devotion and pride in supporting his hometown team. Though born in Calgary, Alta., the actor grew up in Victoria, B.C.

Celebrities also took to their Twitter accounts to offer condolences in response to Monteith’s sudden death.

"I want to pass on our condolences to the family, friends, castmates and millions of fans of Mr. Monteith," said acting police chief Doug LePard at a Vancouver press conference on Saturday, while confirming the star's death.

"As was the case in countless homes, I watched Glee regularly with my daughters and I know there will be shock and sadness in many households with the news of his tragic death."

Hotel records show Monteith checked into to the Fairmont Pacific Rim Hotel on July 6. His body was found by staff after he failed to check out on July 13.

Surveillance footage examined by police show the star returning to his room in the early morning hours alone. Police believe he was by himself when he died.

No evidence of foul play was found at the scene, according to police. An autopsy is expected to be conducted Monday.

Monteith is survived by his parents, brother Shaun, and partner and co-star Lea Michele.
