A Look Back At Will And Kate's Stampede Visit

Before the world went baby-crazy with William and Kate's soon-to-be new arrival, Calgary was whooping it up with the royal couple when they were brand new newlyweds.

Shortly after what was by all accounts a modern fairytale wedding, capped off with a just as fairytale-like courtship, Kate and William were likely the most beloved couple in the western hemisphere, if not the world.

And it was shortly after their internationally televised wedding, that the future king and queen of Canada took in the Stampede in 2011.

The two won over Albertans with their Stampede good looks, easy manner, empathy when comforting the then recently stricken victims of the Slave Lake fires, and embraced Calgary's heritage, after the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were officially white-hatted by Mayor Naheed Nenshi.

It has been two years ago since the royal couple toured the devastation of the Slave Lake fires, spoke with survivors and with those who saw their town devastated first hand.

Back in Calgary, Kate won hearts over when she spent an intimate moment with Diamond Marshall, a little a girl who was waging a public but personal war against stage four cancer.

The little girl met Kate and William after the newlyweds agreed to grant Diamond her wish -- to meet a real princess.

As guests of honour, the Stampede pulled all the stops to make the 2011 parade a memorable affair for the Prince and Duchess, but in the end it was the royal couple who became the biggest draw of the celebration.
