Cabinet Shuffle 2013: Where Alberta MPs Ended Up In Harper's New Inner Circle

Which Alberta MPs Made Harper's New Inner Circle

Alberta, a bastion of the modern conservative movement and the Tories' heartland, remains well-represented in the Harper government's swelling cabinet ranks.

Monday morning's cabinet shuffle saw Edmonton MP Rona Ambrose and Calgary MP Jason Kenny receive new assignments within cabinet, while Calgary Michelle Rempel was named minister of state for western economic diversification.

Along with Rempel, another new Alberta cabinet face is Kevin Sorenson, MP for the riding of Crowfoot, who now becomes minister of state for finance.

Kenney, formerly Canada's very busy and at times controversial immigration minister, is now minister of human resources and skills development.

Ambrose, previously minister of public works, has been appointed Minister of Health.

The move comes at a point of uncharacteristic flux for the Tories' Alberta caucus, which last month saw a very angry Brent Rathgeber quit the Conservative caucus while accusing the party of stifling members' ability to speak freely and called his former colleagues trained seals.

Ablonczy is the minister of state for foreign affairs, and Menzies is the minister of state for finance.

The two announced earlier this month they will not seek re-election in the 2015 federal election.
