We love watching celebrities get decked out for polo matches.

On the one hand, the hat-wearing celebutantes make us roll our eyes just a little bit, but on the other hand, we secretly want to be sipping Veuve and eating foie gras in a Halston dress with the polo watchers, especially if it means we can catch a glimpse of the likes of Princes William and Harry.

Come summer, many of the most prestigious polo matches attended by A-list celebs take place, and many go intent on showing off their best polo attire. Forget divot stomping! Who wants to ruin their new Prada heels? Given that style is the second most important part of attending a polo match (after the match itself, of course), let's take a look at the polo attire (bad and good) worn by the stars at this year’s top events.

Veuve Cliquot Polo Classic

Celebrity Polo Style

Veuve Cliquot Polo Classic

The star-studded event, held in Liberty Park, New Jersey, saw the likes of actors Rosario Dawson, Matthew McConaughey and Ashley Olsen in attendance. McConaughey, who hosted the event, sported a three-piece white linen suit with a baby blue button up shirt and his wife, Camila Alves wore a form-fitting, yellow bandage dress.

“Sin City” actress Rosario Dawson opted for an understated, elegant knee-length black dress while fashion designer Ashley Olsen sported an odd pick for a polo match: a red vintage caftan with gold detailing and aviator sunglasses. Not exactly what we expected for an equestrian event but stylish nonetheless. But were hats out this season? Very few adorned the celeb heads in attendance.

The Cartier Queen’s Cup

The Cartier Queen’s Cup in Berkshire, UK, always welcomes some celebrities.

This year, “Basic Instinct” actress Sharon Stone stood out, looking as if she was headed to the golf course. The Queen of the thigh-high slit dress paired a black and grey argyle sweater with a black skirt and white brogue shoes. Maybe the sexy 55-year-old was confused as to what type of event she was attending?

Luckily, British actress Thandie Newton got it right with a very polo-appropriate Alice by Temperley London cream dress featuring a darling polka dot overlay.

Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup

When royal ginger Prince Harry isn't partying in Las Vegas, you can find him hobnobbing with celebrities at a polo match.

The prince played in the Sentebale Royal Salute Polo Cup Match in Connecticut where models Stephanie Seymour, Karolina Kurkova and socialite Olivia Palermo were in attendance.

Model Jessica Stam represented Canada in a black flared dress and a matching cropped jacket.

Supermodels weren't the only stylish horse watchers!

As old-fashioned as dramatic hats are, we've been a little disappointed at the lack of hat-wearing amongst the celebrity sect at this year’s events. Have we not learned anything from Julia Roberts' polo outfit in "Pretty Woman"? Some clichés should remain tradition in our humble opinion.
