A truck driver was pulled from a flaming vehicle and airlifted to an Edmonton hospital after two gravel trucks collided on Highway 16 on Thursday.
Police received a complaint of a gravel truck driving eastbound on Highway 16 that was weaving all over the road. The caller noticed another gravel truck turning eastbound on Highway 16 from Range Road 20 and the two vehicles collided.
The first vehicle burst into flames and passersby pulled the driver from the vehicle. The driver was later airlifted to hospital by STARS Air Ambulance.
The driver of the second vehicle was transported to hospital by ground ambulance.
Traffic was diverted and RCMP said they anticipated they would stay on scene for several hours, to allow for clean-up of debris and examination by a collision analyst.
