An amateur video appears to show a resident of a Quebec reserve being beaten by police officers.
Norbert Mestenapeo was on his way to a convenience store in La Romaine, an Innu First Nations Reserve, when he got into a quarrel with an unidentified person, Radio-Canada reports.
That's when Sûreté du Québec officers apparently arrived on the scene.
What happened next was captured on video — an unrelenting hail of fists and batons landing on a man who shows little sign of resisting -- although the video does not capture the events leading up to the beating.

Shot from a car window, the video seems to show Mestenapeo being stood up, dragged around and pounded further into the ground.
"They located the man. There is an investigation into the event. We are aware of the video and the Directorate of Professional Standards received these images, "said Nathalie Girard, spokeswoman for the SQ.
Raymond Bellefleur, chief of Unamen Shipu — the band that owns La Romaine — is demanding a response from Quebec's Minister of Public Safety, Stéphane Bergeron.
"People in my community are peaceful and I do not accept that my people be treated this way," he told Le Journal de Montreal.
