Mercier Bridge reopens after truck crash

Lanes have now reopened in both directions on the Mercier Bridge after an early morning crash closed traffic on the bridge for several hours.

The crash happened at about 4 a.m. in the South Shore-bound lane. A truck collided with a safety barrier installed to protect workers doing repairs on the bridge.

The Sûreté du Québec said no one was injured in the crash. It’s not clear when the bridge will reopened completely.

Police officers from Montreal and Kahnawake were called in to help the provincial police reroute traffic.

Engineers were called in to inspect the site to ensure the structural integrity of the bridge wasn’t compromised.

Major work to replace the bridge deck on the aging structure has been underway for several weeks. Since last week, bridge traffic has been reduced to one lane in each direction to facilitate the repairs.
