Twelve B.C. women competed against 68 others for the title of Miss Teen Canada World at Toronto's Queen Elizabeth Theatre on Saturday night.

The contestants come from all over British Columbia. They include an actress from Chilliwack, an equestrian from Vancouver, a cheerleader from Prince George and a figure skater from Victoria. They're competing in an "official preliminary" to 10 international pageants including Miss Teen Universe, said a news release.

Burnaby teen Trinity Stanley, 13, is using the competition as a chance to press an anti-bullying message, News1130 reported.

"I feel like there needs to be a change somehow because it’s affecting our youth, especially cyber-bullying these days," she told the radio station.

Other contestants include Brittany Clough, 18, of Chilliwack; Dani LaFleur, 14, of Vancouver; Shelby LePage, 18, of Osoyoos; Sonja Olsson, 19, of Prince George; Sierra Pilcher, 18, of Surrey; Amy Piquette, 18, of Lake Country; Karli Ralston, 17, of Prince George; Christina Schuerle, 18, of Victoria; Herleen Sethi, 16, of Burnaby; Danica Tan, 17, of Richmond; and Anastasiya Toropova, 16, of Port Coquitlam.

Finalists will be judged on various criteria, including public speaking, charity contributions, swimwear and photogenic appeal.

The competition will be livestreamed on its website.
