Daycare Poisoning: Christine Allen, Kitchener-Waterloo Woman Arrested

Daycare Operator Arrested After Children Poisoned

A Kitchener, Ontario woman has been arrested after two children were poisoned at a daycare facility she ran.

According to the police report, Christine Allen, who may also go by the name Christine Keilbar, is charged with two counts each of aggravated assault and administering a noxious substance.

"The lady that's charged used to operate a daycare in Kitchener from 2009 to 2011 and there are concerns that other kids may have been victimized," Waterloo Police Inspector Kevin Thaler told CBC News.

Police allege the 32-year-old used an over-the-counter eye care product in both incidents -- a product known to cause symptoms such as abnormal drowsiness, low blood pressure, respiratory difficulty and decreased heart rates, specifically in younger children.

"The allegation is that an over-the-counter eye care product was administered to the two children. When ingested, this is very dangerous," Thaler told reporters.

Allen, the police report notes, operated a home day care in Kitchener from 2009 to 2011.

Both children, the Toronto Sun reports, have since recovered, after spending several days in hospital.
