BC Conservative Convention Set For April 11, 2014

VANCOUVER - Members of the BC Conservative party will have almost nine months to decide on a new leader.

The party's provincial board has set April 11 as the date for a leadership convention to replace John Cummins.

The convention will be held on the Lower Mainland, but president Dan Denis says all card carrying BC Conservatives can participate, whether they attend or not, because each member will have a vote through a mail-in, preferential ballot system.

Denis also says the board will make a decision on an interim leader by the end of this month.

Cummins announced his resignation last week after leading the party to a dismal showing in the recent provincial election.

At least one person, former Nechako-Lakes candidate and BC Conservative party director Dan Brooks, has already said he intends to seek the leadership.
