A tornado touched down near the Okotoks, Alberta airport Wednesday afternoon.
The Alberta Emergency Alert reported the tornado touched down near the Air Ranch Airport just before 5 p.m. and was moving southeast at 20 km/h.
The tornado warning ended at 5:22 p.m., but a thunderstorm warning remains in effect for Okotoks and De Winton.
According to the Calgary Herald, a pilot reported seeing a funnel cloud touch down near the airport, prompting Environment Canada to trigger a critical tornado alert.
"Meteorologists are tracking a dangerous thunderstorm that is producing a tornado," said the Environment Canada website. "This is a dangerous and life-threatening situation."
People in tornado warning areas are advised to seek shelter immediately. People should get low and put as many walls between themselves and the storm as possible.
If you are on a highway, seek shelter in a ditch or ravine.
Environment Canada has also issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Calgary, as well as the areas of Brooks, Strathmore, Vulcan, Crowsnest Pass, Pincher Creek, Waterton Lakes National Park, Kananaskis and Canmore.
