The network released the officer's name Tuesday. He is described as "a family man who is well-regarded by his peers," the network reports.

The Toronto Star's Jennifer Pagliaro wrote in a tweet the paper has confirmed that Constable Forcillo is the officer involved in the shooting.

The Globe and Mail has also confirmed the name from Peter Brauti, Forcillo's lawyer.

“Like any officer involved in a loss of life incident, this officer is devastated,” Brauti told The Star. “All we can do at this point is wait for the investigation into the matter to conclude. It is important that people not rush to judgment in this matter.”

A profile on Movember Canada names a James Forcillo as a member of Toronto Police Service's 14 Division and includes a photo. Huffington Post Canada has not verified the photo or its authenticity.

Forcillo is included as a police constable in the Toronto Police Service Board's salary list, as well as the 2012 Ontario Sunshine list. Both listings include the same salary of $106,800.89.

Forcillo has been suspended with pay.
