Sunset Park Shooting Suspect Arrested

An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection to a south Vancouver shooting on Tuesday night.

The shooting occurred after 6 p.m. in Sunset Park near the intersection of East 52nd Avenue and St. George Street.

UPDATE: The suspect in the Sunset Park shooting has been identified as 18-year-old Hartej Singh Kang. He has been charged with attempted murder and firearms offences, the Vancouver police tweeted.

Shortly after the shooting, a 19-year-old woman arrived at Vancouver General Hospital suffering from minor gunfire-related injuries, according to a Vancouver police news release on Wednesday. She was accompanied by an 18-year-old man.

The suspect was taken into custody a few hours later at a house near to where the shooting took place. Police say the two men knew each other.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, faces the possibility of an attempted murder charge that has been recommended by police.
