Girls missing in central Alberta park found safe and healthy

BOWDEN, Alta. - Five young girls are safe and sound after being missing for eight hours in a central Alberta park.

RCMP says the barefoot girls aged 12 to 14 went floating on tubes and rafts in the Little Red Deer River at Red Lodge Park near Bowden, Alta., late on Wednesday afternoon.

When they did not return to a rendezvous point, relatives spent five hours searching for them, then notified RCMP.

Police and rescue officials launched a search for the girls, but they were found by a relative involved in the search.

RCMP say they were cold and had sore feet but were otherwise healthy.
