Driver dies trying to escape police on Hwy 20

A 30-year-old driver died Sunday night after he crashed his car while being chased by police.

The crash happened just before 11 p.m. on Highway 20 east near Saint-Hyacinthe.

The police pursuit started when a Sûreté du Québec patrol officer tried to intercept a Hyundai Accent that was speeding. The driver refused to stop.

The driver tried to take an exit off the highway and lost control of the car, rolling several times.

The 30-year-old man, who was alone in the car at the time, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Montreal police are now investigating.
