Ex Edmonton soldier faces 119 charges in child porn probe

A former Edmonton soldier faces 119 charges of child luring, possession of child pornography and breaching conditions after a continent-wide investigation.

Matthew Richervezeau, 23, a former soldier at CFB Edmonton, was charged Tuesday by military police with the co-operation of other law enforcement agencies across North America.

"This is an exceptionally disturbing case of alleged child sexual exploitation using computers and social media," said Acting Canadian Forces Provost Marshal Col. Rob Delaney in a news release.

"This is a grim reminder that there are predators out there who can and will use technology and social media to exploit our children's innocence — and it is our responsibility to protect these most vulnerable members of our society," he said.

Before leaving the military in May, Richervezeau was an armoured crewman with the Lord Strathcona's Horse regiment.

He is now in custody at a provincial facility in Edmonton. The case has been turned over to civilian criminal courts.
