Woman drives car through main entrance of Newfoundland hospital

CLARENVILLE, N.L. - RCMP in eastern Newfoundland are investigating after a woman crashed her car into a Clarenville hospital.

Police say the 66-year-old driver from Lethbridge, N.L., was conscious and uninjured after driving through the main entrance of the Dr. G. B. Cross Memorial Hospital.

The Eastern Health authority says the collision caused significant damage to a doctor's lounge, but no one was hurt.

Elective surgeries and all outpatient medical appointments at the hospital were cancelled for the day.

The hospital says normal operations are expected to resume Wednesday.

It also says the facility is considered safe, though cleanup is expected to take a few days.
